Article Highlights

One of the most popular off-roading 4x4’s of all time, this Land Rover Defender with a Tesla drive unit takes it to a whole other level. E.C.D. Automotive Design is a Florida based shop that has perfected the Land Rover Defender restoration process. E.C.D. Automotive isn’t a small shop either, they boast a 30,000 square foot warehouse with over 50 employees. Each of their builds are unique, and this one is no different. They’ve partnered with a U.K. based shop called Electric Classic Cars to make this 450 bhp E-Lander that has a claimed 0-60 time of under 5 seconds.

This is the luxury high-end of electric vehicle conversions with many amenities added that the classic Defender never had including, traction control, ABS, regenerative braking, and direct drive.  It’s got a 100kw battery back that gets up to 200 mile range, which isn’t bad. The interior of the car looks fantastic as well.

Hopefully we see more investment into converting old cars to electric. Having the familiarity, and beauty of something old like a classic Defender with modern power appeals to a lot of people, especially when the current landscape of electric cars has limited offerings for car enthusiasts.
